Leaving a Lease Because of Violence
RSA 540:11-b — ending a lease after domestic violence, sexual assault or stalking in the last 150 days
A tenant may end the lease when the tenant or a household member at the premises has, within the most recent 150 days, been a victim of domestic violence, sexual assault or stalking, or in the other cases the section lists.
Who handles this in New Hampshire: New Hampshire Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Violence and HAVEN; and legal aid programs, lawyer referral and the state offices, listed in the New Hampshire directory.
The tenant gives the landlord written verification: that they sought a protective order, reported to a law enforcement agency, or have a statement from a law enforcement official, victim's advocate, attorney or health care provider, as the section provides.
