Someone asked
“How long does a landlord in Delaware have to return a deposit?”
Getting the Deposit Back
A landlord who fails to return the deposit, or the difference, within 20 days owes double the amount wrongfully withheld. The return goes to an address in the rental agreement or a forwarding address the tenant gave in writing, and a tenant who gives none relieves the landlord of the notice duty.

Ask for a page
Name the topic or the situation. A person reads every request, and what people ask for decides which Delaware pages get written next.
Leave it blank and the request stays anonymous. We do not record your IP either way.
About this guide — education built from the Delaware Code as the Legislative Council publishes it, not a law degree in a webpage. Applying it to a particular situation is the work of a licensed Delaware attorney or a legal aid office. Current as of October 2026.
This guide covers common situations in real Delaware encounters. Not the whole legal code, not a replacement for a lawyer.
