Someone asked
“How long does a landlord in Indiana have to return a deposit?”
Getting the Deposit Back
When a rental agreement ends, the landlord returns the security deposit, less accrued rent, damages from the tenant's noncompliance, and unpaid utility or sewer charges the tenant owed, all itemized in a written notice delivered not more than 45 days after the agreement ends and possession is handed back.

Ask for a page
Name the topic or the situation. A person reads every request, and what people ask for decides which Indiana pages get written next.
Leave it blank and the request stays anonymous. We do not record your IP either way.
About this guide — education built from the Indiana Code as the General Assembly publishes it, not a law degree in a webpage. Applying it to a particular situation is the work of a licensed Indiana attorney or a legal aid office. Current as of October 2026.
This guide covers common situations in real Indiana encounters. Not the whole body of law, not a replacement for a lawyer.
