Registering and Voting
Section 1-4-8 — registration closes twenty-eight days before an election, with registration at the polls besides
To take part in an election, the deadline to register or update a registration is twenty-eight days before the election.
Who handles this in New Mexico: legal aid programs, lawyer referral and the state offices, listed in the New Mexico directory.
A qualified elector may also register or update a registration at a voting location immediately before voting in that election, after signing an affidavit under oath of not having voted in it in New Mexico or elsewhere, as the section provides.
Required voter identification is any of the forms the Election Code lists, as the voter chooses, among them a current and valid photo identification, which need not show an address matching the registration, or a utility bill, bank statement, government check or paycheck.
