  • A pedestrian does not suddenly leave a curb or other place of safety into the path of a vehicle too close to stop.
  • When a vehicle is stopped at a crosswalk to let a pedestrian cross, a driver coming from behind does not pass it.
  • Ala. Code § 32-5A-211
  • A pedestrian crossing anywhere other than a marked crosswalk or an unmarked one at an intersection yields to vehicles, and so does one crossing where a tunnel or overhead crossing is provided.
  • Between two intersections with working signals, pedestrians cross only in a marked crosswalk.
  • No one crosses an intersection diagonally unless devices allow it.

Pedestrians obey the traffic control devices meant for them unless a police officer directs otherwise, and walk and wait signals apply to them.

Due care, whoever has the right of way. Every driver uses due care to avoid hitting any pedestrian or first responder, sounds the horn when necessary, and takes proper precaution on seeing a child or anyone obviously confused, incapacitated or intoxicated.
