A Small Claim
AS 22.15.040 — up to $10,000, not counting costs, interest and attorney fees
When a claim is for no more than $10,000, not counting costs, interest and attorney fees, and a request is made, the district judge or magistrate hears it as a small claim, unless important or unusual points of law are involved or the state is a defendant.
Who handles this in Alaska: legal aid programs, lawyer referral and the state offices, listed in the Alaska directory.
Everyone who might bring or face a small claim is told whether mediation, conciliation or arbitration is available instead.
