Belongings Left Behind
AS 34.03.260 — a notice giving at least 15 days to remove property before a sale
When a tenancy ends and the landlord reasonably believes the tenant abandoned property left behind, the landlord may give notice that it be removed by a date at least 15 days after the notice is delivered or mailed, and if it is not, sell it at a public sale.
Who handles this in Alaska: legal aid programs, lawyer referral and the state offices, listed in the Alaska directory.
Property the landlord reasonably decides is worth less than the cost of storing and selling it gets the same notice of at least 15 days, and perishable things may be disposed of in any manner.
An abandoned unit. If the tenant abandons the unit, the landlord makes reasonable efforts to rent it at a fair rental value, and a new tenancy starting early ends the old agreement on the day it begins.
