Seat Belts
A.R.S. 28-909 — front seat occupants, and every passenger under sixteen years of age
In a vehicle designed for ten or fewer passengers and required to have belts, each front seat occupant wears the belt adjusted and fastened while the vehicle is moving, and the driver requires each passenger under sixteen years of age to do the same.
Not a reason to stop a car by itself. An officer may not stop a driver or issue a citation for a belt violation unless the officer has reasonable cause to believe there is another alleged violation of a motor vehicle law.
The maximum civil penalty is $10 a violation. The violation is not considered for suspending or revoking a license, is not sent to the department, and an insurer may not use it to set rates or cancel or refuse to renew a policy.
