Assistance Dogs In Public
Civ. Code 54.2 — a guide, signal or service dog in public places, with no extra charge
In California, every individual with a disability has the right to be accompanied by a guide dog, signal dog or service dog, especially trained for the purpose, in the public places the code lists, without paying an extra charge or security deposit for the dog.
People authorized to train guide, signal or service dogs may also take dogs in training into those places, without an extra charge or deposit.
The individual is liable for any damage the dog does to the premises or facilities. The places covered are listed in a neighboring section and are not reproduced here. Whether an animal qualifies is a question for a licensed California attorney.
