Jury Duty And Your Job
Lab. Code 230 — no firing or discrimination for jury service on reasonable notice
Reasonable notice first. A California employer may not discharge or in any way discriminate against an employee for taking time off to serve on a trial or inquest jury, if the employee gave reasonable notice beforehand that they are required to serve.
The same section protects time off to appear in court as a witness under a subpoena, and time off for a crime victim to seek a restraining order or other relief. An employee treated against it is entitled to reinstatement and reimbursement for lost wages and benefits.
