A person in Colorado who knowingly possesses, uses or carries a firearm, or another weapon the weapons article covers, after a felony conviction under Colorado, another state's or federal law, commits possession of a weapon by a previous offender. A juvenile adjudication for an act that would be such a felony counts too.

It is a class 5 felony. Where the firearm was used or threatened in another crime, the person is not eligible for probation and is sentenced to the department of corrections.
A conviction for a private transfer without the required background check also bars possessing a firearm for two years.
