Canceling a Door to Door Sale
Conn. Gen. Stat. § 42-135a — until midnight of the third business day
A home solicitation sale is not effective against the consumer unless the consumer signed and dated it and the seller gave a completed copy of the contract, in the language of the sales pitch, with a notice in bold type that the consumer may cancel at any time before midnight of the third business day after the transaction.
Who handles this in Connecticut: Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection; and legal aid programs and the state offices, listed in the Connecticut directory.
- The seller also attaches a completed notice of cancellation form, in duplicate and easy to detach.
- The notice tells the consumer the deadline, and that the form may be signed, dated and sent to the seller by email, fax or mail. Public Act 26-16 rewrote the section from 1 October 2026.
