Passing A School Bus
Fla. Stat. 316.172 — a full stop while the bus shows its stop signal
In Florida, a driver approaching a school bus that displays a stop signal brings the vehicle to a full stop while the bus is stopped, and does not pass it until the signal has been withdrawn. A violation is a moving violation.
Passing on the side children enter and exit. Passing a school bus on the side where children get on and off while it displays a stop signal is also a moving violation, and carries a mandatory hearing.
A driver traveling in the opposite direction on a divided highway with an unpaved space of at least 5 feet, a raised median, or a physical barrier is not required to stop. The penalties are set by the chapter on traffic infractions, not in this section.
