The Last Hundred Feet
Fla. Stat. 316.155 — a turn signal given continuously during not less than the last 100 feet, and a signal before stopping
Only with reasonable safety, and only after a signal. No person turns from a direct course or moves right or left on a highway unless the movement can be made with reasonable safety, and then only after an appropriate signal, if any other vehicle may be affected.
The last 100 feet. A signal of intention to turn right or left is given continuously during not less than the last 100 feet before turning, except that a bicyclist need not hold a hand signal continuously if the hand is needed to control the bicycle.
Stopping. No person stops or suddenly decreases speed without first giving an appropriate signal to the driver immediately behind, when there is opportunity to give it.
What the signals are for. They indicate an intention to turn, to overtake or to pass, and may not be flashed on one side only on a parked or disabled vehicle, or as a courtesy or do pass signal. A violation is a noncriminal traffic infraction, punishable as a moving violation under chapter 318.
Hand and arm signals, and the equipment a vehicle must carry for them, are set out in neighboring sections that are not all on this page. What a particular stop or ticket means is a question for a licensed Florida attorney.
