Where Guns Are Barred
Idaho Code § 18-3302C and Idaho Code § 18-3302D — courthouses, jails and schools, and a locked car in the school lot
Courthouses, jails and schools. A person with a license, or carrying without one under the permitless rule, may not carry a concealed weapon in a courthouse, a juvenile detention facility or jail, or a public or private school, unless authorized by whoever has authority over the building. A violation is a misdemeanor.
Possessing a firearm or other deadly or dangerous weapon on the property of an elementary or secondary school, in a building being used for a school activity, or on school transportation is a misdemeanor carrying up to one year, a fine of up to $1,000, or both.
Locked in the car. The school rule does not reach an adult over eighteen, not enrolled in a school, who keeps a lawfully possessed weapon secured and locked in a vehicle in an unobtrusive, nonthreatening manner, or a person with a weapon in a private vehicle while dropping off or picking up children.
Colleges and universities set their own rules under a separate section, and federal law bars firearms in federal buildings. A particular place is a question for a licensed Idaho attorney.
