On a Bicycle
Iowa Code § 321.234 — the rights and duties of a driver, on a regular seat, with no extra riders
- A person riding a bicycle on the highway, a peace officer included, has all the rights and duties of the driver of a vehicle, except those that by their nature cannot apply, or where police bicycles have a specific exception.
- The rider sits on a permanent and regular seat attached to the bicycle.
- A bicycle on the highway does not carry more people at one time than it is designed and equipped for.
- A person riding an animal, or driving an animal drawn vehicle, is likewise subject to the rules for drivers that can apply.
The section does not apply to a bicycle in a parade with a permit from local authorities.
