Child Support
K.S.A. 23-3002 — the Kansas Supreme Court's guidelines, and support until 18 or the end of high school
In a divorce the court provides for the support and education of the minor children, and it sets the amount by following the Kansas child support guidelines adopted by the Kansas Supreme Court.
Who handles this in Kansas: legal aid programs, lawyer referral and the state offices, listed in the Kansas directory.
Support ends when the child turns 18, unless the parents agree in a court approved writing to continue it; or the child is still in high school, in which case it runs until June 30 of the school year in which the child turned 18; or, on motion, through the school year in which the child turns 19, if the child is still a bona fide high school student and the parents took part in or knowingly went along with the decision that delayed graduation.
Changing an order. Within three years of the original order or the last modification, a change needs a material change in circumstances. After three years, it does not. A modification can reach back to the first day of the month after the motion was filed.
The guidelines and their worksheet are issued by the Kansas Supreme Court rather than written into the statute. How they apply to a particular household are questions for a licensed Kansas attorney.
