An unclassified misdemeanor carries whatever sentence the statute that defines it sets, and the class C sentence if it sets none. A fine may be imposed instead of jail or in addition to it.
A felony is ranked on a grid whose one axis is the severity of the crime and whose other is the person's criminal history. Each box gives a range in months of imprisonment, and the judge may sentence anywhere within it.
- A felony at severity levels 6 through 10 carries a fine of up to $100,000.
- A felony at severity levels 1 through 5 carries a fine of up to $300,000.
- A traffic infraction carries a fine of up to $500.
