Seat Belts and Car Seats
K.S.A. 8-2504 — a $30 fine for an adult without a belt, $60 under 18, and $60 for a child not in the right seat
Every occupant 14 or older of a passenger car with belts wears a safety belt whenever the car is moving. A back seat passenger's belt is not, by itself, a reason for a stop.
Who handles this in Kansas: Johnson County Bar Association, Find a Lawyer; and legal aid programs and the state offices, listed in the Kansas directory.

The belt fine is $30 for someone 18 or older and $60 for someone 14 to 18, with no court costs, and it is not reported to the department of revenue. A driver who fails to secure a child pays $60, waived for proving the right seat was bought after.
Not wearing a belt, or not securing a child, cannot be used in a lawsuit to decide comparative negligence or reduce damages.
