Endangered Wildlife
KRS 150.183 — no importing, moving or selling endangered species, or anything made from them
No one may import, transport, possess for resale or sell an endangered species of wildlife, or its hide, skin or parts, or anything made from them. Endangered means seriously threatened with worldwide extinction or in danger of disappearing from the state, and the list includes every species the federal government designated on January 1, 1973.
Who handles this in Kentucky: legal aid programs, lawyer referral and the state offices, listed in the Kentucky directory.
The Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources may allow it for zoos, education, science or captive breeding for preservation. Other exotic animals are covered by the department's regulations, not this section. Whether a particular animal may be kept is a question for the department or a licensed Kentucky attorney.
