Jury Duty and Your Job
La. R.S. 23:965 — no firing for jury service, and one day of paid leave
No employer may fire or take adverse action against an employee called to serve, or serving, on any jury, or keep a policy of doing so. An employer who does reinstates the employee with the same pay and benefits and is fined $100 to $1,000 for each employee.
One paid day. An employee regularly employed in Louisiana and called to a state petit or grand jury, or a central jury pool, gets a leave of absence of up to one day without loss of wages or of sick, emergency or personal leave.
An employer who does not pay that day pays the employee's full wages for it and is fined $100 to $500 for each offense.
