Unemployment After a Job Ends
La. R.S. 23:1629 — 15 days to appeal a determination, and 15 more to appeal the referee's decision
A claimant is eligible after a waiting week of unemployment, with enough base period wages, after registering for work, and while able to work, available for it, and actively searching. The weekly benefit is one twenty-fifth of the average of the base period's quarterly wages, never more than $312 a week.
- Quitting without good cause attributable to a substantial change the employer made to the job.
- Being fired for misconduct connected with the work, which includes dishonesty, breaking a law, or breaking a safety or orderly work rule.
- Refusing suitable work, or a job interview, without good cause.
- Being fired for using illegal drugs, proved by a preponderance of the evidence.
Fifteen days. A determination may be appealed to an appeal referee within 15 days after notice was given or mailed. The referee's decision may be appealed to the board of review within 15 days after it was given or mailed, and the board decides within 60 days.
