Getting Paid
26 M.R.S. § 621-A — paid in full at least every 16 days, through 8 days before payday
- An employer pays all wages earned, in full, at regular intervals of no more than 16 days. Family members of the employer and salaried employees are excepted.
- Each payment covers all wages earned to within 8 days of the payday.
- Payday is an established day or date made known to the employee, and the interval may not be lengthened without written notice at least 30 days ahead.
- A payday that falls on a day the business is closed moves to the next business day.
Who handles this in Maine: Maine Department of Labor, Labor Standards; and legal aid programs and the state offices, listed in the Maine directory.
Wages are paid at the rate already set. An employer may lower the rate starting the next working day only after notice to every employee affected. No fee may be charged for direct deposit.
