Right of Way
29-A M.R.S. § 2053 — yield to the right at an intersection, and to traffic already in a roundabout
- At intersecting public ways, a driver yields to a vehicle on the right and has the right of way over one on the left, except at a roundabout or as an officer directs.
- A driver turning left yields to oncoming traffic in the intersection or close enough to be an immediate hazard.
- A driver entering a public way from a driveway, alley or other private way yields to vehicles on the public way and to pedestrians.
- Oncoming drivers each keep right of center, and a slow vehicle keeps as far right as practicable.
Who handles this in Maine: legal aid programs and the state offices, listed in the Maine directory.
Roundabouts. A driver approaching a traffic circle, roundabout or rotary yields to vehicles already in it, drives only to the right of the center island, and yields to a vehicle on the left.
