The side windows behind the driver and the rear window are exempt from the light and see-through rules when the vehicle has two outside mirrors, one on each side. The Chief of the State Police may grant an exemption when sunlight harms the health of the owner or a regular occupant; the certificate is shown when an officer asks.

An owner or operator with tinted windows gets a light transmittance certificate and shows it to the inspection mechanic at inspection.
