Jury Duty And A Job
Cts. & Jud. Proc. § 8-501 — no firing for jury service, and no late shift after 4 hours of it
A Maryland employer may not deprive anyone of employment, or coerce, intimidate or threaten to fire them, because they lost work time answering a jury summons or serving, or because they declined a shift the law excuses them from.
After 4 or more hours of jury service. An employer may not require someone who appeared for jury service for 4 or more hours, counting travel, to work a shift beginning at or after 5 p.m. that day or before 3 a.m. the next day.
A violation carries a fine of up to $1,000.
