Small Claims Court
Cts. & Jud. Proc. § 4-405 — the District Court, for claims up to $5,000
Up to $5,000. The Maryland District Court has exclusive jurisdiction over small claims: civil actions for money where the amount claimed is no more than $5,000, not counting interest, costs and recoverable attorney's fees.
The same limit applies to a landlord's case for unpaid rent or possession, where the rent claimed is no more than $5,000 not counting interest and costs.
