Where Nobody May Smoke

Health-Gen. § 24-504 — indoor areas open to the public, public meetings, transit, and indoor workplaces

Four places. Except as the next section provides, a person may not smoke or vape in an indoor area open to the public, an indoor place where meetings are open to the public under the open meetings law, government owned or operated mass transportation including buses, vans, trains, taxicabs and limousines, or an indoor place of employment.

The exceptions, such as private homes and certain tobacco businesses, are in the next section of the Clean Indoor Air Act and are not on this page. Cannabis smoking, local ordinances that go further, rules in rental leases, and how a complaint is made and enforced are outside this page. Whether a particular place falls inside an exception is a question for a licensed Maryland attorney or the agency that enforces the law.
