Turning Eighteen
MCL 722.52 — an adult of legal age for all purposes at 18
At 18. Except as the constitution and the section provide, a person at least 18 years of age is an adult of legal age for all purposes, with the duties, rights and legal capacity that used to come at 21 years of age.
Support past 18. A court may still order support for a person 18 years of age or older under the family statutes the section lists.
Ages set for specific purposes elsewhere, such as buying alcohol or tobacco and some licenses and permits, are not on this page. How a particular age rule applies to a particular person is a question for a licensed Michigan attorney.
