The Electric Bicycle

Minn. Stat. 169.222 — ridden like a bicycle, and not under 15

In Minnesota, a person may operate an electric-assisted bicycle in the same manner as other bicycles, including on the shoulder, in a bicycle lane, and on a bicycle route.

The paths. A class 1 or class 2 electric-assisted bicycle may be ridden with the motor engaged on a bicycle path, trail or shared use path unless prohibited under the laws the subdivision names. A class 3 may be, unless the authority over the path prohibits it.

The age. A person under the age of 15 must not operate an electric-assisted bicycle.
