Without a permit, nobody in Nevada may carry concealed on the person a pistol, revolver or other firearm, another dangerous or deadly weapon, a pneumatic gun, a machete, or an explosive substance other than ammunition. A concealed weapon is one carried so that it is not discernible by ordinary observation.

A resident applies to the sheriff of the county where the resident lives, and a nonresident to the sheriff of any county. One permit covers every handgun the person owns or later obtains, and the application does not have to list them.

  • Twenty-one years of age or older, or at least 18 and serving in, or honorably discharged from, the Armed Forces, a reserve component or the National Guard.
  • Not prohibited from possessing a firearm.
  • A certificate of a firearm safety course approved by a sheriff or offered by a law enforcement agency, college, university or certifying organization.

The sheriff issues the permit to an applicant who meets those conditions, and denies or revokes one for an outstanding warrant, a felony conviction, a conviction for domestic violence or stalking, a protective order, parole or probation, a violent misdemeanor within the preceding 3 years, or a stay in a mental health facility within the preceding 5 years, among the other grounds the section lists. The sheriff's own fee may not exceed $60.
