The Gift Card
NRS 598.0921 — an expiration or fee only if printed on the card, never more than $1 a month, and nothing in the first 12 months
A business may not issue a gift certificate or gift card that expires unless the expiration date, or a toll-free number to call for the balance and expiration date, is printed plainly on it in at least 10-point type, visible before purchase.
Fees, at most. A service fee needs its amount, what triggers it and how often printed on the card, and an inactivity fee cannot start before 3 continuous years of nonuse. Whatever is printed, fees may never total more than $1 per month, and none may be charged in the first 12 months after the card is issued.
These rules do not cover cards given free as rewards or promotions, cards sold at a discount to employers or charities that expire within 30 days, prepaid phone and internet cards, or cards issued by a licensed gaming establishment.
