N.J.S.A. 39:3-29 — license, registration and insurance card, shown when an officer asks

Three documents, and a signature. In New Jersey, a driver has the license, the registration certificate and an insurance identification card whenever in charge of a vehicle on the highways, shows them when a police officer or judge asks in the course of duty, and writes their name in the officer's presence so the officer can confirm identity.

The registration and insurance card may be shown on paper or on a phone, tablet or computer. A digital driver's license issued by the Motor Vehicle Commission may be shown without handing over the device.

A violation carries a fine of $150.
