Voting, Step By Step
N.J.S.A. 19:31-6 — registered on or before the 21st day preceding the election
The 21st day. A person qualified to vote is entitled to vote in an election if registered on or before the 21st day preceding it, by any of the methods the section lists.
- In person at an office the commissioner of registration designates.
- Through the Motor Vehicle Commission while applying for a driver's license.
- Through a voter registration agency or other public agency.
- On a form from a door-to-door canvass or mobile registration drive.
- On the federal mail voter registration form.
Those are among the ways the section names.
Absentee and early voting, and what a provisional ballot needs in order to be counted, are set out in other sections that are not on this page. Whether a particular person is registered is a question for the local election office.
