A Sale at Your Door
Section 57-12-21 — until midnight of the third business day to cancel
In a door to door sale, it is an unfair or deceptive trade practice for the seller not to give the buyer, when signing, a fully completed receipt or contract in the language of the sales presentation, with the date, the seller's name and address, and a statement in bold type that the buyer may cancel at any time before midnight of the third business day after the transaction, with a notice of cancellation form.
Who handles this in New Mexico: legal aid programs, lawyer referral and the state offices, listed in the New Mexico directory.
For a sale begun by telephone, the cancellation period does not begin until the buyer has been told of the right to cancel and given copies of the notice. A business day is any day but Sunday and the holidays the section lists.
