Turning Eighteen
Gen. Oblig. Law § 1-202 — a minor has not attained the age of eighteen
The definition. For the general obligations law, an infant or minor is a person who has not attained the age of eighteen years.
Other New York laws carry their own definitions of age for their own purposes. Ages set for specific purposes elsewhere, such as buying alcohol or tobacco and some licenses and permits, are not on this page. How a particular age rule applies to a particular person is a question for a licensed New York attorney.
