Tanning Under Eighteen
ORS 453.734 — no tanning bed under 18 without a doctor's recommendation
A tanning business may not let a person under 18 years of age use its tanning devices. A parent's permission does not change that.
Who handles this in Oregon: legal aid programs, lawyer referral and the state offices, listed in the Oregon directory.
The one exception is medical. A minor may tan when the minor or a parent or guardian gives the business documentation that a licensed physician recommended it for a medical purpose, and then only on the terms of that recommendation. The business must post a notice of the rule where it can be seen.
Tattoos and piercings for minors are not covered by this section. Questions about a particular salon go to the Oregon Health Authority.
