An ATV on the Road
R.I. Gen. Laws § 31-3.2-7 — off the road and its shoulder, a direct crossing only, and no crossing a state highway under sixteen
No one operates a snowmobile or recreational vehicle on a highway's shoulder, bank or slope, or anywhere in the right of way except as the chapter allows, and never within the right of way of an interstate or freeway.
- At an angle of about ninety degrees, where nothing blocks a quick and safe crossing.
- After a complete stop before the shoulder or the main traveled way.
- Yielding to oncoming traffic that is an immediate hazard.
- Across a divided highway only at an intersection.
- With front and rear lights on from a half hour after sunset to a half hour before sunrise.
Young riders. No one under sixteen years of age crosses a state highway on one. A rider sixteen or seventeen may cross only with a valid driver's license in hand.
A firearm carried on one, or on its trailer, is unloaded and in an enclosed case.
Nothing in the chapter is permission to ride on private land. A particular situation is a question for a licensed Rhode Island attorney.
