Where You May Not Park

R.I. Gen. Laws § 31-21-4 — eight feet from a hydrant, twenty from a crosswalk, and $100 to $325 in a disability space

  • On a sidewalk, a crosswalk, or within an intersection.
  • In front of a public or private driveway.
  • Within eight feet of a fire hydrant.
  • Within twenty feet of a crosswalk at an intersection.
  • Within thirty feet of a flashing beacon, stop sign or traffic signal at the side of the road.
  • Within fifty feet of the nearest rail of a railroad crossing.

No one stops, stands or parks in those places except to avoid other traffic or on an officer's or a sign's direction.

The vehicle may also be towed at the owner's expense. Using someone else's placard for one's own purposes is $500 each time.
