Reckless Driving

S.C. Code 56-5-2920 — wilful or wanton disregard, $25 to $200 or thirty days

Wilful or wanton disregard. A person who drives any vehicle in a way that indicates a wilful or wanton disregard for the safety of persons or property is guilty of reckless driving, punishable by a fine of $25 to $200 or up to thirty days.

On a second or later offense, the Department of Motor Vehicles suspends the license for three months. Only offenses within five years, counting back from the latest, are prior ones.

Reckless homicide and driving under the influence are separate offenses with their own sections. Whether particular driving was reckless is a question for a licensed South Carolina attorney.
