The Last Hundred Feet
S.C. Code 56-5-2150 — a turn signal for the last one hundred feet, and a $25 fine with no points
One hundred feet. A signal of intention to turn or move right or left, when required, is given continuously during not less than the last one hundred feet the vehicle travels before turning.
Nobody turns a vehicle or moves right or left on a roadway until the movement can be made with reasonable safety, and not without an appropriate signal. Nobody stops or suddenly slows without first signaling to the driver behind, where there is opportunity to.
Turn signals may not be flashed on one side only on a disabled vehicle, as a courtesy or do pass signal to drivers behind, or on one side of a parked vehicle except as the section requires.
A violation carries a fine of $25, which may not be suspended in whole or part, and no court costs, assessments, surcharges or points may be added to it or to the driving record. Hand and arm signals have sections of their own. Whether a particular movement needed a signal is a question for a licensed South Carolina attorney.
