Changing Your Name

RCW 4.24.130 — a petition to any district court, granted in its discretion

A Washington resident may petition any district court in the state to change their own name, their child's, or that of a person under their guardianship. The court may order the change in its discretion, and the new name then replaces the former.

Email

A person under the jurisdiction of the Department of Corrections gives the department a copy of the application not fewer than five days before an order, and may be refused if the change would interfere with legitimate penological interests, except when it is for religious or cultural reasons or recognizes a marriage or its dissolution.
