The Golf Cart On The Street
RCW 46.08.175 — a golf cart zone on streets of twenty-five miles per hour or less
A golf cart zone. A city or county may by ordinance or resolution create a golf cart zone for incidental operation of golf carts on streets with a speed limit of twenty-five miles per hour or less. A driver there has all the rights and duties of the driver of a vehicle.
- The operator is at least sixteen years of age and has completed driver education or has driven before as a licensed driver.
- A person with a revoked license may not drive one in a zone.
- The city or county may bar operation from a half hour after sunset to a half hour before sunrise, require a decal for a fee, and keep carts out of bicycle lanes.
Low-speed vehicles registered as motor vehicles, all-terrain and utility vehicles, private roads, and the local ordinance itself are outside this page. Whether a particular street is designated, and what the local rules require, are questions for the local government or a licensed Washington attorney.
