Handing Over A Firearm
Wis. Stat. 941.2905 — furnishing or buying a firearm for someone known to be prohibited is a Class G felony
A straw purchase. Whoever intentionally furnishes, purchases or possesses a firearm for a person, knowing that the person is prohibited from possessing one, is guilty of a Class G felony.
Storing it. The rule against possessing a firearm for a prohibited person does not apply to someone the firearm was surrendered to, or someone designated to store it while an order or temporary prohibition is in effect.
Federal law adds its own rules on transfers, including to people who live in another state, which are not on this page. Whether a particular sale, loan or gift is lawful is a question for a licensed Wisconsin attorney.
