When Someone Uses Your Name

Wis. Stat. 943.201 — unauthorized use of personal identifying information, a Class H felony

In Wisconsin, intentionally using, trying to use, or possessing with intent to use another person's personal identifying information or identification document, living or dead, without their consent and by posing as them or as acting for them, is a Class H felony when it is done for any of these:

Email
  • To get credit, money, goods, services, employment or anything else of value.
  • To avoid civil or criminal process or a penalty.
  • To harm the person's reputation, property, person or estate.

A person who reports to the police where they live that their information appears to be held or used this way gets a report, and if that agency lacks jurisdiction it says which one may have it.
