Where Guns Are Barred
W.S. 6-8-104 — jails, courtrooms, the bar side of a bar, and a school for its own students
- A facility used mainly for law enforcement, without the chief administrator's written consent.
- A detention facility, prison or jail.
- A courtroom, though a judge may carry and decides who else may.
- The part of a bar or other on premises liquor licensee mainly given to serving drinks.
- An elementary or secondary school facility, if the person is enrolled as a student at one.
- Any place where federal or state law prohibits firearms.
Who handles this in Wyoming: Wyoming State Bar, attorney referrals; and legal aid programs and the state offices, listed in the Wyoming directory.
A shorter list since 2025. Laws 2025, chapter 61 repealed several places that used to be on this list, so older lists of barred places may be out of date.
Taking a deadly weapon into a courtroom without the presiding judge's permission is a misdemeanor with up to one year, a fine of up to $5,000, or both. Taking one into a jail or a state penal institution without the permission of the person in charge is a felony with up to ten years, a fine of up to $10,000, or both.
