A Claim Against the Government
Ala. Code § 11-47-23 — a claim for damages from a tort is presented to the municipality within six months
A claim against an Alabama municipality for damages growing out of a tort is presented within six months from its accrual, or it is barred.
Who handles this in Alabama: legal aid programs, lawyer referral and the state offices, listed in the Alabama directory.
Other claims against the municipality, apart from bonds, interest coupons and claims for damages, are presented to the clerk for payment within two years from their accrual.
How a claim is presented, and whether the municipality is liable for the act at all, are questions for a licensed Alabama attorney.
