When a Minor Can Consent to Medical Care
AS 25.20.025 — a minor living apart and managing their own money, a minor parent, and pregnancy or venereal disease care
- A minor living apart from their parents and managing their own finances.
- A minor whose parent cannot be reached, or will not give or refuse consent.
- A minor who is a parent, for themselves or their child.
- Any minor, for diagnosing, preventing or treating pregnancy, and for venereal disease.
Who handles this in Alaska: legal aid programs, lawyer referral and the state offices, listed in the Alaska directory.
Each of these may consent to medical and dental care, and the parent is relieved of paying for care given that way. A provider who relies in good faith on a minor's statement that they can consent may treat the consent as valid.
