Unemployment After a Job Ends
AS 23.20.379 — quitting without good cause or a misconduct firing costs the first week and the next five, and an appeal runs 30 days
A worker who left their last suitable work voluntarily without good cause, or was fired for misconduct connected with it, is disqualified for the first week of unemployment and the next five weeks.
Who handles this in Alaska: legal aid programs, lawyer referral and the state offices, listed in the Alaska directory.
- The same disqualification, for that week and the next five, follows failing without good cause to apply for suitable work the employment office referred, or to accept suitable work offered.
- The most a disqualified worker can draw is cut by three times the weekly benefit amount, or by what is left unpaid if that is less.
- The disqualification ends if the worker goes back to work and earns at least eight times the weekly benefit amount.
Appealing. A claimant may appeal a determination no later than 30 days after being told of it in person, or 30 days after it was mailed.
