Moving Over For Stopped Vehicles
A.R.S. 28-775 — pull over for sirens, a lane away from flashing lights, and a $275 civil penalty
In Arizona, on the immediate approach of an emergency vehicle showing a red or red and blue light and sounding a siren, a driver yields, moves as close as possible to the right edge of the road clear of any intersection, and stops until it has passed, unless an officer directs otherwise.
- A driver approaching a stationary vehicle showing alternately flashing or warning lights, on a highway with at least four lanes and two going the same way, proceeds with due caution and, if possible, changes into a lane not next to it.
- Where a lane change is impossible or unsafe, the driver proceeds with due caution and slows to a safe speed.
- Behind a police vehicle using its lights and siren, a driver stays at least three hundred feet back until it moves to the right lane, and does not drive alongside it.
- A driver not on official business does not follow a fire apparatus answering an alarm closer than five hundred feet.
